v6 has been in the works for 4 years now and still hasn't set a release date and won't until after beta-testing which as of right now, still hasn't happened though it was talked about a year ago. It's still in the Alpha 2 stage but from what I've seen, it shouldn't be much longer but then time is irrelevant when it comes to this stuff. So.. "It'll be ready when it's ready"
At a guess, I'd say no one has to worry or think about it for another year and even once released, another year+ after that. But I think about it since I've been testing the alpha 2 over on support. There are a few glitches but most have been reported or are being reported as they are found. No, I haven't found any myself but then I'm still learning my way around it as 'just a member'. I have a feeling, once I can test it on my own forum and away from support, I might be a better contributor. I'll also have more access than I do now so honestly, that'll help me a lot.
v6 is responsive aka. mobile friendly. What this means is that plugins will be able to be used on all platforms. (up to staff to add however so don't go asking for stuff until it is offered - a lot of plugins won't be usable, some will need redone and others will become obsolete) You'll be able to upload from mobile also. Language packs will be offered over time. A brand new posting experience. Forum Search will be improved. Easier account switching for those who use it. New JavaScript API which will a complicated mess for me since I still struggle with the basics of it. (this is for staff) Reimagined CSS... this I raised my eyebrow at because I've seen it in action outside of PB but don't really understand the details of what that means exactly even if it was spelled out. (also a staff thing) Flexbox will be part of this which is something people have been asking for. Bye, bye IE (more or less)
Unlimited plugin Space. Headers and Footers will be part of a plugin. Gone but not completely gone with more room for adding in other things and you can limit where they go as well. (this will be an Official PB plugin)
Of course there is more. You can keep yourself updated here.
My only real complaints about v6 so far are the popups all over the place, for one. I was never a fan of them which is why my themes and forums were never made fancy. (also why I never liked the participated button and hid a few things that most never noticed anyway) Of course that makes my themes and forum alike, not all that mobile friendly. (as one member used to point out to me) The other thing I dislike is that everything is hidden unlike here now. It's so obvious where everything is. (though the non cramped look is much cleaner) There is also the post button that floats around that is a little too big to my liking. lol (you'll get to see that once v6 is released or if you go and become a an alpha tester. Beta Testers will be done differently so I suggest you go to support and join up before it is too late)
On an offtopic note: Before tapatalk took over Zetaboards, they had just made their own responsive set of themes. It wasn't the entire package per se' but if you had been part of Zeta and managed to get your hands on a responsive theme, you had a fairly clear idea what it was all about. Of course those who use tapatalk forums also have a clear idea as well since it was solely mobile before the takeover. (from my understanding, it still is mostly - never saw the point in paying for something I can get for free though so tt can jump off a bridge for all I care)
Oh, I forgot, the avatars are rounded. Not too many are a fan of that. Personally. I don't care about that. I don't like avatars replacing names everywhere though and WILL sort out how to change that.
