Name is Charlie McGhee, like the little girl in Firestarter. It is safe to assume that any name I ever use is a pseudonym. I keep the name my mother gave me a very closely guarded secret, as have many native tribes throughout history. A young adult female with no human children, I live with my boyfriend/husband in a trailer with a wood stove, towing the house around Illinois and Missouri behind a pickup truck.
Ever since I was a small child, I would run out into the woods with a book to read, instead of socializing with the other kids. High school and college textbooks, as well as fantasy, horror, science-fiction, and wilderness survival novels. I'll even read water bottle labels to avoid talking to other people. At a young age, I developed a passion for anthropology, biology, ecology, geology, psychology, and theology. My interests narrowed in on biochemistry, bushcraft, ethnobotany, herbalism, medicine, and physiology by adolescence. Although I have no formal college education in biology/medicine, or any other art/science I practice. I do hate admitting that too....
I don't write to publish, at least not at this point in life. I simply write to exercise my mind, keep a record of my dreams, and release space in my head. Anything I publish would probably be more like a textbook. My fiction is obviously influenced by my academic passions, with a lot of survival situations, spirit trips, natural disasters, gruesome injuries, herbal medicine, and fever dreams. I also violate physics for pyrokinesis, but try so hard to follow physics as much as possible. My geography is very nit-picky because Earth itself is a character in a sense.
Perhaps my writing could be considered a darkly humorous science-fantasy. Most of my settings are in ancient/prehistoric times, or in an alternate world where technology rarely surpasses a steampunk-like level, but I write some modern, futuristic, and post-apocalyptic stories as well. It seems I have somewhat of a witch doctor Florence Nightingale type kink. But I've read the forum rules, so I'll try to keep my sex, drugs, and blood as PG-13 and/or TV-14 as possible. Hopefully I won't fit in too badly here!
