Asthma: Nebulizer solutions containing disodium EDTA as a preservative can cause the breathing tubes to narrow in some people with asthma. The size of the dose determines the amount of the narrowing. (half the young people in my family)

The main reason given seems to be to keep your food fresher longer or well, to keep it from spoiling too fast. (same thing) Maintaining color and to keep oils and fats from separating. Don't see the big deal with those two things since when we make dressing from scratch, it's not the colors we find dressing in a bottle to be anyway and oils and fats... uh, shaking it usually does the trick. The first bit... if everything wasn't so thoroughly processed, I highly doubt that would be much an issue either.
I love mayo and salad dressing and my soda. Don't use much else on the list of foods I read except those.
Depending on where you read, some say its good and some say its bad. The bit that caught my attention though was short term side effects because I suffer from most of them but never linked it to food I eat.
Doc, I was already strange when it came to foods, I think you're making me worse.
*mumbles.... this best not be in my meat too*

Remember the words of the old master, "the dose makes the poison".
But, it is also the low level dose over a period of time... that makes the poison.
A little now and then may not hurt, but a little, ALL THE DAMNED TIME- in your shampoo, in your breakfast, in your soft drink at lunch......
your body never has a chance to recover.
And, no, a week long "cleanse" after fifteen years of constant poisoning isn't going to prove anything.

BUT: "why invite trouble in the mean time?" Control what you can, find alternatives to products with too many poisons in them. And then minimize what you can't stop all together, because, like it or not, we live in the here and now where this stuff is part of every day life. Quit Stewing About Yesterday. Worrying about what you slathered all over yourself and your kids last year at the beach will probably do more harm than the documented toxins in the sunscreen, which was probably more harmful than the sun itself, but that's another article. Reading labels is time-consuming but I suppose most waste time doing one thing or another so... okay, we read the labels.
Here is where the problem comes in for a small percentage of us... We're too poor to cut out the bad stuff since half the bad stuff is all that is affordable. If my life is shortened where food is concerned, it's because I didn't eat and not because I ate the bad stuff. (some might call it starvation)
I'm not saying it's not worth paying attention to. I'd like to learn more but not on the food aspects. (skin is my real concern)
I'll let you get back to it now. Plenty of others should find this worth reading about. You know me, I have to interrupt ever so often.
